The Source
The flame lily, Gloriosa Superba, grows across Zimbabwe and carries the country in a single form. The scarf holds the flower at the moment its petals reflex — the reversal that gives the lily its shape.
The Design
The reflexed petal was taken as a structural instruction rather than a motif. Repeat, scale and rotation follow the way the flower opens; the ground was pulled to a warm ivory so the crimson reads as pigment, not as print.
The Method
Drawn from botanical study, redrawn to hold at 90 cm, then separated for double-sided printing so the reverse carries the same weight of colour as the face.
